Dr. Shreedhar KB Gowda is a consultant psychiatrist with over 16 years of experience across India and Australia. Following MBBS from Government Medical College, Bellary in 1999, his psychiatric postgraduation training has been at premier institutes including: Diploma in Psychiatry (DPM) from National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Diplomate of National Board (DNB) from St. Johns National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore.

Following his postgraduation, he has worked in NIMHANS and Department of Psychiatry, St. Johns National Academy of Medical Sciences. He then moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2010 and obtained the Fellowship of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). He is passionate about clinical work, and was among the few to initiate private practice in Melbourne shortly after his fellowship. He has worked as consultant psychiatrist in public mental health units including Melbourne Health and Mercy Health, Melbourne, and South Australia Health, Adelaide. He has also consulted at various private clinics and hospitals in Melbourne including Wyndham private, Southwest Specialist Centre, and the well-known NorthPark Private Hospital consulting suites.

He is well versed in working with clientele from diverse socio-cultural-linguistic background. He is fluent in Kannada, English, Hindi and Telugu. He is keenly focused on treating clients with a holistic bio-psycho-social approach following a thorough assessment. He believes in multimodal treatment module which combines judicial use of medications, psychoeducation, supporting family members and psycho-social interventions.

Dr Gowda is popular for his warm, down-to-earth, and innovative approach leading to strong therapeutic relationships and long-standing follow-ups with clients.

Anxiety spectrum disorders including OCD, Panic disorder, different phobias and social anxiety disorder

Teaching:

He is passionate about teaching and has been involved all along in training medical students, psychology/psychiatric social work trainees, nurses and postgraduate trainees in Psychiatry across India and Australia. He is a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP) accredited supervisor for postgraduate trainees. He has worked as Senior Tutor in the Department of Psychiatry, St. Johns National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore and as Tutor of Psychiatry for Notre Dame Medical College, Werribee, Melbourne, Australia.

He believes in keeping up-to-date with advances and researches in psychiatry. He is part of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme in Australia and India.

Research Experience:

  •  He has carried out research work in neuropsychiatry titled ‘Pattern of Psychiatric symptoms and cognitive status during acute phase of first ischemic Stroke: A Diffusion weighted-MRI correlation and prospective study’. This work was in collaboration between the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology and Radiology of Johns National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore.
  • He has worked as a co-investigator in a clinical trial titled ‘paliperidone for maintenance therapy of Bipolar affective disorder’ at Johns National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bangalore.

Awards / honours

Dr Gowda is a recognised author in modern Kannada literature. His first foray into writing, ‘Panchamukha’ was awarded the Karnataka Sahithya Academy award in 2016.
